Mexican Rap! Pt 2

I would like to make something clear, although some of the next rap artists that I will mention could be consider the "new school" of Mexican rap, I will not address them as that, simply because some of them gained recognition or relevance after the 2000s but they've probably been doing rap since way before that, but also because a couple of them have been making music since the 90s.

So, without further due, I'd like to start this list with one of the top exponents of Mexican rap, Bocafloja.
Bocafloja is a rapper, poet and spoken word artist, he's been making rap since 1995 and he is widely known for his strong lyrics and his great way to rap. Lyrically, Bocafloja critically addresses topics such as institutionalized racism, social and political oppression, mental slavery, colonialism, and other human conditions.
To me, he is probably the biggest representative of Mexican rap, I've been listening to his music for quite a while and his music has such feeling and his lyrics always leave you thinking about every word and I've felt inspired to be better thanks to his lyrics.
He's shared stage with artist such as Dead Prez and Immortal Technique and so many other hip hop artists.

This next rapper is not only one of my favorite rappers ever, but also the Mexican rapper I like better. Akil Ammar is one of the few rappers that write lyrics that I can relate to the most. He writes about the problem with the superficial we've become, he writes about the most important thing for me, the family, his journey, his dreams and how he has fought to get to where he's at right now. He's won a few awards in Mexico and he co-founded an independent organization that advocates for hip hop artist and that invites people to express themselves, to make a stand for what they believe in. He's been making rap since 1998 and until this day, he keeps making great music and spreading a great message to not only the hip-hop community, but the LatinAmerican community.

He's one of the few people that's written lyrics that actually had made me cry.

The next group is actually quite cool and the fun fact about them is that, they're based in the same city I live right now: Milwaukee, WI. Kinto Sol consists of three brothers: DJ Payback (Javier Garcia), El Chivo (Eduardo Garcia), and Skribe (Manuel Garcia), they're originally from Iramuco, Guanajuato. Their unique sound is a combination of traditional Mexican music with hip-hop and their lyrics cover a wide range of topics: injustice, the hard working class and their life experiences. I do have to admit that I've only found them recently but from what I've read, they are big exponents in the genre and the music the make is great. Image result for kinto sol

Akwid is a group that has accomplished a lot, they've won 2 Billboard awards and a Latin Grammy award for their album Proyecto Akwid. They're known to combine Hip-Hop beats with regional Mexican music. They've been around since 2003 and they consist of AK (Francisco Gomez) and Wikid (Sergio Gomez). They keep making great music and it looks like there not stopping any time soon.

Whenever you think of gangsta rap from Mexico, your go-to guy is C-Kan. He is known for writing lyrics about the life in the hood, he talks about violence but also about his struggles and how is life in poverty and the streets. He's been active since 2004 and is widely known in LatinAmerica, he has millions of views in youtube and he's collaborated with artists including 50 cent.

The last rapper I'll mention in this blog is one that is a huge representative of Mexican rap and one that for a while was mainly known for his romantic lyrics but with time he's shown that he writes great lyrics about life, society and his experiences. When I was in middle school, I remember everyone loved his songs and everyone was obsessed with his romantic songs. He's been rapping since 2004 and he still is making great music. He's collaborated with different artist from around the globe, like Porta from Spain. He stays true to his beliefs and lately he's criticized how a lot of rappers decided to start making trap with stupid lyrics, lyrics without a message.
